Attachment Parenting International (API) is now represented in Devon for the first time with a newly formed support group holding monthly meetings in Ashburton and Totnes.
I am a big fan of API, which promotes science-based parenting-practices that create strong, healthy emotional bonds between children and their parents. Michelle Mattesini from Landscove has recently become an accredited support leader and aims to offer support, information and friendship to those interested in aspects of attachment parenting such as babywearing, positive discipline and extended breastfeeding.
Michelle says “there are a range of different styles within attachment parenting but the overarching philosophy remains the same. What positive discipline or safe-sleep looks like differs from home to home depending on the ideas and circumstances of each family. Devon API is here to support and provide information, not to judge”.
Meetings are open to everyone, children are welcome, and there will be toys and healthy snacks available. Local sling companies, Slumber-Roo (don’t forget about the post with details of the 5% discount code) and Natural Nursery, have kindly donated various slings and the group will be offering both a book and sling library featuring pouches, wraps and carriers with some ex-demo slings available.
To contact Michelle for more details email firstname.lastname@example.org, or visit www.devonapi.com
Ashburton meetings in 2010 will be held at St Andrews Hall from 10-12pm on Wednesdays October 13, November 10 and December 8
Totnes meetings will be at Birdwood House from 10-12pm on Mondays October 25, November 22, December 20.
